Absence due to sickness occurs in any business, no matter the size or prestige. Most people are absent from work a couple of times a year. During that time, they can’t perform their work duties and as a result don’t meet their deadlines. The following blog lists the top four ways to effectively manage your business when your staff is missing. Let’s get to work:

Design a flexible work schedule

Perhaps your employees feel forced to take time off because of their work schedule. It’s a great idea to assess the reasons why. Is it because of the way your business operates? Consider implementing a more flexible schedule to reduce absenteeism.

Push back deadlines

Sometimes, you will have no other option than to push back those deadlines until your staff returns to work. The benefits are that the work will get done by the people who are best at it – your employees – so you retain quality. Of course, if the deadline must be hit, then you need to seek another option, but if it’s somewhat flexible, consider pushing it back.

Appoint a temporary project manager to help you organize things

If you are not able to manage the situation alone, enlist some help. Choosing a temporary project manager helps to organize the workload and delegate staff so that you and other employees can focus on the daily operation.

Call in temporary contract workers or freelancers

Recruiting freelancers has many benefits, like no ongoing financial commitments. The work that needs to be done will be done by an expert in the field. It is always a great idea to foster long-term relationships with qualified freelancers for future projects.
