Big Changes to CT Family Medical Leave of Absence for Employers and Employees in Connecticut

Employers in Connecticut should take steps to change their leave of absence policies and procedures to comply with the new law changes effective January 2022.

Most importantly, small employers with one or more employees in CT must comply. This includes providing leave of absence job protection, providing proper leave notices to employees, assuring proper record keeping, updating workplace notices and educating supervisors and employees, understanding the leave entitlements and the availability of paid leave benefits.

Larger employers will need to review and revise their leave policies and procedures given the significant changes made to the CT FMLA and the income replacement benefits. They will also need to transition employees that have current approved leaves or need new leave in 2022 to the new CTFMLA law.
